2018 Presentation for Young Arts Painting Competition
Saturday 17 March 2018

Once again we must thank Karen Dickson and her wonderful team of volunteers for allowing us the use of Chalfont St. Peter Library for this event on Saturday 17th March 2018.  We had a really good turnout of prize-winners, parents, grandparents and siblings and we also welcomed several teachers from the schools taking part in the competition – Robertswood, Chalfont St. Peter CofE Academy, Chalfont St. Giles Village School and St. Mary’s School – who all filled the library.  The sleet, snow and cold outside in no way dampened the excited and joyous atmosphere inside. We particularly enjoyed meeting the families and hearing the back-stories for the paintings produced by our winners.  Perhaps we should include a brief narrative in future (as one school did) but we do not want to risk putting off the children who enjoy art but are not so good at writing stories!

Our top prize-winners produced wonderful paintings which really reflected the competition’s title of My Favourite Day.  The first prize went to Madison Creaby from Robertswood, the second prize went to Chiara Manzi from St. Mary’s School and the third prize went to Verity Matthews from Chalfont St. Peter CofE Academy.  The Best in School awards went to Lucas Crammer (Chalfont St. Peter CofE Academy), Georgia Naylor (Chalfont St. Giles Village School), Abby Dennis (Robertswood) and Maya Barnes (St. Mary’s School).  In addition there were 10 Highly Commended certificates awarded at the presentation.  The paintings will be on display at the library for one month and they will also be displayed on the rolling display at the entrance to the library as well as being on show on this website gallery.  We had pleasure in presenting two art books to the library with our thanks.

We always find it really difficult selecting the prize-winners for this competition so for the artists who did not quite make it but worthy of mention there will be thirty-five Commended certificates and nineteen Innovative certificates presented separately at the schools together with badges for all entrants.  We would like to congratulate all those who entered and thank the schools for their participation.
